“Bringing the homeless home.” Hearts for Homeless is a volunteer team that strives to bring MPPC and the homeless in our area into a community of mutual benefit. With Christ as our guide we seek to connect the homeless of the Mid-peninsula with the physical, mental and spiritual resources to achieve stable housing and to provide our church community with rewarding opportunities to serve.
Service opportunities include:
Hotel de Zink: Every year in November MPPC hosts a traveling emergency shelter run by InnVision. There are opportunities to cook and serve meals to our homeless guests. Sign-ups begin in October.
Bingo Dinners: The last Saturday of every month we provide an evening of food, fellowship and fun for the homeless and our volunteers. We invite the homeless to attend the 5 p.m. Saturday evening worship service if they so choose. Dinner commences at the MPPC Glenwood building after the service. Volunteers are needed in a variety of areas, including cooking and serving dinner or simply visiting with the homeless who join us.
Positive Cycle: Do you have a passion for cycling or bicycle repair? One of the greatest needs amongst the homeless is transportation. Our program matches needy individuals with the bicycles they desperately need.
Advocacy: If you would like to work on a one-on-one basis to help identify and meet the needs of a homeless individual, we will match you with a homeless person who desires an advocate and provide the training required to best serve him/her.
